The itinerary, with wiggle room
Tomorrow, Sunday, August 7: Depart JFK.
Aug 8-10: TOKYO. Oh my God, it's actually happening. Kaychan, Kirin, baseball, baths, subways, supermarkets.
Aug 10-13/14: BEIJING. Nick, tailored suit, Maosoleum. I hate this language. Chiang Kai-Shek's revenge.
Aug 13/14-17: SHANGHAI. Nick, P-oltroon, Naughton, Stone Fish, Eblambos, Ben? Shanghai museum, Cloud 9 bar, the Bund, xiao lun bao.
Aug 17-19: train to KUNMING with P-opinjay. Ooh, aah, ooh aah Shagri-La.
Aug 19-22: KUNMING. It's very pretty. And the food is good.
Aug 22-26:DALI. I have no idea. What am I doing here? P-iss off to Flagrant harbor.
Aug 26-30. CHENGDU. No spicy, please no spicy. Nuclear street food, plane tickets, travel agency, extra visas.
Aug 30-Sept 15: LHASA, TIBET. Tashi restaurants, Yak meat, yak butter tea, Yak Hotel. Steer clear of the PSB.
Sept 15-19: THROUGH FUCKING HIMALAYAS. Everest, Shigatse, etc.
Sept 19-20: KATHMANDU. Not sleeping in the airport. Not sleeping, period.
Sept 20-Oct 1: CAIRO. Ben again, Alexandria, Luxor, Giza, Sinai, trying to look goyishe, wondering how a civilization could fall so hard, so fast.
Oct 2: ATHENS. Ten-hour layover, 5:30am to 5pm. Sunrise at the Acropolis, anyone?
Oct 2-9: ROME. Does anyone know anyone in Rome? I don't. Busting out my rusty Italiano.
Oct 9-15: FIRENZE. Same as above. Excursions to SIENA.
Oct 15-19: BOLOGNA. Roz, and whatever else it is they have in Bologna.
Oct 19: Switching trains in MILANO.
Oct 19-22: NICE. Wendy, and salad. Back in Provence, at long last.
Oct 22-28: APT and SAIGNON. Home away from home, drying, graying lavender fields, Provençal autumn, surprising Jean-Luc at le marche on Tuesday morning, giving him a heart attack, le vin de les vielles tourettes, R&R. Denoument. Hitching rides into town and up the hill to Saignon. It's going to be awesome.
Oct 28-Nov 10: PARIS. Everyone else: Rebecca, Kaychan again, Stephen, Lee, Jessie, Steve, Josh, Liv, anyone else? Excursions to SAINT-MALO. Revisit the Revolution'air ultimate team? I have no idea what I'm going to do there.
Nov 10: Home.
(Nov 11: No sleep till Boston. Family reunion)
Time to start packing.
