Wheelbarra of whatnot
This is what I've been doing while not blogging. I'm going to send out the Columbia application tomorrow on a wing a prayer, because it's the only one what matters. The essay is over 3,000 words, but they don't mind. I also rewrote that post from Kathmandu to include a number of details I left off, in particular the histrionics of this shearing (captions courtesy of P-hotomaton:
"The local barber, Bai market, Dali"
"Bourgeois conceit, shaving cream"
"Sam has no idea what's just been done to him."
I also extended it through to the end of Tibet, evening the balance. The kvetching half is still better written, but hey. It's what I do best. Enjoy.

peekaboo
Frank Bruni has a blog!
As do I, though lately I have been guilty of sore neglect. My excuse is that whatever impulse I have to write has been channeled into the Columbia essay, which you will all be glad to know contains no vestige whatever of the paragraph from a week back (mostly thanks to Seema). Also had to dash to get in the application to the Columbia in Beijing summer program--keep your fingers crossed. Applications mostly go out March 1. The Columbia essay is at about 2,000 words and nearly finished. The others I haven't even looked at yet. Crunch time.
